Nimbus dam to the mouth
The Lower American River flows through the city of Sacramento. Although this is an “urban” fishery, you will be amazed to discover that you are on a beautiful river in a remote setting.
Good numbers of large steelhead enter the river in December - April. Using my drift boat we will cover the water thoroughly in search of these brutes.
We can use a variety of techniques including indicator nymphing and swinging traditional steelhead flies as we fish for steelhead up to 15 pounds! Most American Rivers steelhead range in size from 3-8 pounds.
Spring kicks off the return of stripers! These barbaric beasts provide excellent challenges on 7 - 9 weight rods. Most common are stripers ranging in size from "schoolies" to 10 pounds ... however, these stripers can reach mammoth proportions with sizes over 20 pounds.
Spring is also shad season on the American. These hard-fighting anadromous fish can provide hours of entertainment. While fishing for shad, we may also target stripers as they cruise for easy meals. This makes for a great combo.
