Oroville to Gridley

Located in the town of Oroville, California, the lower Feather is one of Northern California’s premier steelhead rivers. Flowing out of Lake Oroville, this tailwater hosts great runs of steelhead and salmon.

As September creeps in, so do the steelhead as they continue to navigate their way through the river. While utilizing my drift boat we can cover water from Oroville to Gridley. During the heat of the egg drop we will find most steelhead actively feeding behind spawning salmon.

It is not uncommon to hook good numbers of steelhead in a single day. Hands down, anglers have greater opportunities to hook and land steelhead.

Most steelhead caught on the Feather range in size from 20” to 30” with a few fish caught every year tipping the scales at 10 pounds. Last year was an exceptional year for bigger fish.

If you have been on too many fishless steelhead trips, it may be time to fish the Feather.
